Forget the IPhone, get an IPlate

No the IPlate is not a piece of crockery that sings while you eat your dinner, but could really improve your internet performance. If you want to increase your broadband speed then take a look at the IPlate from BT. If you have a master BT socket, you can fit this in seconds and it could make a big difference. It did with me, my speed was 3.9MB average before fitting it and now it's gone up to 4.8MB average. I've regularly used SpeedTest to check my broadband performance (every man should check their performance once in a while) so I know that this has worked. This is well worth a pop, I got mine from the BT Shop for £6.

Domain scam

A family member was contacted by a so called domain name provider who said they had a persistent man on the phone wishing to purchase a lot of domains based on my relative's company name. My relative contacted me and I quickly worked out it was a scam. IServeUK are the dodgy company who prey on businesses getting them to buy up domains before the 'incessant man' buys them all. A list of scammers can be found at http://www.domainscams.co.uk/ and you can report them to Nominet.

Moneygrabbers comeuppance

Well it looks like the unhappiness of broadband customers being fobbed off with poor speeds has resulted in Ofcom getting involved. In 2008 they will have to be more truthful about what speeds you will achieve and if you're not happy with them you can change or back out the plan. Signing a government petition and responding to The Gadget Show campaign must have helped. For more info, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7151132.stm

Moneygrabber broadband

Broadband - why don't we get what we pay for in the UK? I've paid for better broadband speed, but random tests on it show I get the same rate as before. Annoying and wrong. Sign a government petition to get something done. Also, visit The Gadget Show to test your own speeds and campaign for the truth about broadband speeds.
